Lightfastness is an objective quality characteristic that not only depends on the pigment alone, but is determined by the overall formulation. That is why Schmincke does not take over the lightfastness information from the pigment suppliers, but rather the overall formulation of each individual shade as an original spread in extensive tests, e.g. checked on the company roof and / or by a light fastness test using a xenon lamp. These intensive tests to determine the light resistance of the HORADAM® AQUARELL colors are necessary for the correct, strict classification in our 5-star system based on the "wool scale". Nevertheless, because of the mostly fine, thin and therefore particularly light-sensitive color application, watercolor pictures should not be permanently exposed to direct sunlight.
